Criminal Investigative Unit "CIU" - 6 Detectives

  • Investigates numerous assorted criminal investigations occurring in Gloucester Township
  • Major Crimes: Homicides, Assaults, Sexual Assaults and Offenses, Auto Thefts, Thefts, Weapons Offenses, Criminal Mischief, Suspicious Acts, and Threats of Violence
  • Fraudulent Activities and Identity Theft related matters
  • Burglaries (Residential, Commercial and Vehicle)
  • Robberies, Shoplifting, Arson, Bias Incidents
  • Criminal Background Investigations; Employees, Applicants, Internal Matters
  • Intelligence Gathering Activities
  • Gambling and Prostitution Matters
  • Processes Crime Scenes

Juvenile Unit - 2 Detectives

  • Investigates all matters related to Juvenile Offenders or Victims involved in Gloucester Township
  • Processes all required paperwork pertaining to juvenile matters, regardless of origin
  • Works closely with township school officials, community groups, and all other agencies dealing
    • with juvenile matters
  • Processes Crime Scenes
Narcotics Unit - 1 Detective, 3 Investigators
  • Investigates all matters regarding narcotic activity within Gloucester Township
  • Conducts surveillance activity as it pertains to narcotic or criminal matters
  • Works closely with all other agencies involved in narcotics investigations

Special Investigations Unit - 1 Detective

  • Investigates "Specialized" Investigations as determined by the Chief of Police
  • Works closely with agencies involved in special, large scale involvement or lengthy criminal investigations
Property/ID Unit - 2 investigators
  • Receives, packages, retains, and stores all property obtained by the agency
  • Processes, stores and catalogs all evidence pertaining to criminal investigations
  • Maintains all Property Function record keeping files
  • Maintains "Megan's Law" violator records
  • Works closely with other agencies involved in property related functions
  • Processes Crime Scenes
Shift Investigators - 5 Patrol Officers
  • Temporarily assigned to CIU or Juvenile Unit
  • Investigates criminal matters originally stemming from patrol related incidents
  • Assigned minor criminal investigations
  • Assists Detectives as needed
  • Conducts criminal background investigations regarding part-time employee and firearms applicants
  • Processes Crime Scenes
