Mayor David Mayer

Mayor David R. Mayer

A Message from the Mayor

Dave was elected Mayor of Gloucester Township in November of 2009 and sworn in on January 2, 2010. Since taking office, Dave has worked to straighten out the township’s finances, stabilize taxes by introducing three budgets which each held the line on the municipal tax rate and implement many sustainable and green initiatives.

Dave began his public career in 1989 as an aide for then Freeholder Director Robert E. Andrews, continued in Andrews’ successful congressional campaign and then as director of the Congressman’s district office. From 1995 to 2003, he was chief of staff to Camden County Clerk James Beach.

Dave’s service as an elected official began in May of 2002 when he was elected to the Gloucester Township Council. Because of Dave’s strong opposition to dual office holding, he resigned from the council position when he entered the race for State Assembly in the Fourth District in 2003. Dave was elected to the State Assembly both in 2003 and 2005, where he served on the Assembly Transportation and Education committees and sponsored many pieces of legislation including the New Jersey Stars program.

Dave earned a B.A. from Rutgers-Camden, a Masters Degree in Public Policy and Administration also from Rutgers-Camden and a Law Degree from Rutgers-Camden School of Law. He has taught courses in political science, public administration and public policy at Camden County College, Rutgers-Camden and Rowan University.
Dave currently also serves as State Director of Legislative Affairs for Comcast and is a member of the board of trustees for the United Way of Camden County.
