Message from the Mayor

Mayor David Mayer

I would like to wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year as we move into 2012. We started 2011 with an ambitious agenda of improving the quality of life for all residents and making government more efficient.

Over the last year, we held the line on our municipal tax rate for the second year in a row; qualified for the Sustainable New Jersey program; developed a comprehensive Energy Master Plan that included solar panels on the municipal building, energy audits of seven municipally owned properties and our three high schools; implemented single stream recycling and paperless council meetings as well as new initiatives with our police department regarding anti-bullying measures and domestic violence programs in addition to expanding our K-9 unit.

In 2012, we will work to continue economic development, as we recently opened the new bridge over Route 42 at College Drive and continue to enhance downtown Blackwood and write redevelopment plans for Blackwood-Clementon Road and the College Drive area. We will also continue with our commitment to alternative energy as a way to not only benefit the environment but also to save, and in some cases, generate revenue for our township. We will continue to move forward with plans for a solar field on the old Owens-Corner brownfield site on Somerdale Road, and will continue to look at shared services with other communities.

I thank you for the opportunity to have served you as Mayor over the last two years, and look forward to working with you in the year ahead as we continue to make Gloucester Township a great place to live, work and play.

Sincerely,

Mayor David Mayer
