Nike Missle BaseNew Vision Redevelopment Area – Cross Keys
Nike Base redevelopment Project:  The Nike Base Redevelopment Project is a municipal initiative to redevelop the former Nike Missile Base on Cross Keys-Berlin Road and Williamstown-Erial Road in Gloucester Township. In August 2002, the Township designated the Nike Missile Base as a redevelopment zone and adopted a redevelopment plan for the area.  In March 2003, the Township concluded almost three years of work with the Federal Government's General Services Administration to acquire the base. The site sat idle for over thirty years, generating no tax revenue, and once served as an air defense station for the U.S. Army during the Cold War period.

The property has undergone extensive environmental remediation and old buildings and military structures have been demolished in preparation for sale to a private developer.  The Township has received a “No Further Actionâ€ letter from the NJ Department of Environmental Protection. The redevelopment of this 50-acre +/- site in the Cross Keys section of the Township has the potential to add $30-$50 million to the Township's tax base.

In June 2006, the Township issued a Request for Proposals seeking developers for the commercial redevelopment of the site.  Under the Township's Master Plan, and the New Vision Redevelopment Plan, the Cross Keys area has been targeted for commercial development. The Township Council authorized the designation of Missile Realty Development, LLC. as redeveloper.  Under the redevelopment process, the developer proposes to create a 100% commercial project.  The redeveloper will have 90 days to perform due diligence after which a formal redevelopment agreement is contemplated.

The base sites are adjacent to several commercial developments: Town Square Plaza, Lakeside Business Park and Gloucester Town Center.
